We hung our mission/values banner from the rafters yesterday. It was a quiet event without any fanfare but we did take a moment to enjoy the pride of knowing that we have diligently adhered to this value-set since day one.

Somehow I managed to book a face to face meeting with the scary-talented and hyper-busy Jackie Von Tobel. I was thrilled when she let me take a sneak peek at her entire book in its pre-press binder form (neener neener). I am no expert on bedding but from what I saw this book is a no brainer for every design library!

When we received this submission there were lots of us over here at HB that predicted it to win and evidently the voters agreed.
Barbettes Sob Story:
Daughter’s bedroom from high school days. Ready-made vinyl mini blinds explains the long length. Drapes and blinds used to be the same color, both have faded. Ready-made curtains that were not long enough to cover the trim hung on an adjustabe rod that is sagging in the middle. Recently took down the paper shade that was hung behind the blinds because the heat was a problem in the summer. Can’t decide what to do with the room not that my daugher has moved.
Here is a little-known secret that needs to get out……… We give away hardware all the time!
We absolutely love to hook up the underdogs but we need help finding the right candidates. Let’s face it, they aren’t going to come right out and say “hey my daughter is very sick and bedridden and some pink drapes might make her room a happier place” …….which is why we need your help….

Miki Ballard was a mentor to me.
When I stopped by Drapery Creations with my installation price-list sometime in the early 90’s I was a bit nervous. Miki sat me down and after a few questions picked up my price-list and read it while slowly shaking her head disapprovingly. Then she picked up a pen and started marking all over it. After letting me sweat for a few moments she handed it back and said “this is what I am going to pay you.” I looked and she had raised all the prices considerably. I really enjoyed sitting with Miki on her workroom tables in the late afternoon with a beer to talk about how the job went or any other random topic. Miki taught me many lessons and we shared countless laughs. I will never forget her.
