The Un-Office
How on earth did we survive before wireless internet access? I’ve got a nice breeze, Vivaldi in my ears, single-digit humidity, 75 degrees, ducks, birds singing, yorkiepoo’s, labradoodles, and chiweenie dogs everywhere, and no bugs! Man, if you’ve got to work, this is how to do it. It is easy to forget after a hot summer, but now I remember why we live in Arizona…..Have a great day, and neener, neener!
Brochure Bows

Dear Anita, the bows on the brochure packages are really nice but you are absolutely killin’ my macho image

Post-Show Shenanigans In Atlanta
I was digging through some old photos and found these from the IWCE in Atlanta……

Mark and I had some fun tossing the football around after the exhibit hall closed one night. I forgot that ball was in the boxes!
We Tried to get our buddy Mary Dwan airborne with the helium balloons but she would not fly……
Mark said that he felt a little lighter on his feet, but we couldn’t get the moonwalk experience we were hoping for….
The IWCE can be a hoot if you have the right attitude. Can’t wait till next May!
Ruby From Susan Kostelecky at the Custom Sewing Institute
Ruby is a shy Sheltie and is 11 years old this month. She was a huge barker but has mellowed in her older years. Our other Sheltie, Peaches, passed away last fall and we thought we would immediately get another dog, but Ruby seems to enjoy her “only dog” status, so we have decided to wait. We found Peaches through the Houston Sheltie Sanctuary, which fosters rescued and found Shelties; they even let you have a “sleepover” with your potential new pet so that you can make sure your dogs get along well and that the dog is a good fit. We loved Peaches very much and we love the wonderful service that HSS provides also.
Marks Lawnmower
My brother Mark has creativity to burn (see lawn-mower). He has had a very high level of ingenuity from the time he was very small. Mark even installed a doorbell at his bedroom entrance by himself when he was only age 8!
We kind of thought he was a bit of a mad scientist back then, but I’ll bet you can imagine how valuable that guy is when he focuses all that creative energy on a project at Helser Brothers. What a productive force! I really hate to be the one to break it to you though, Mark, but it is not going to make cutting the grass go any faster…… Seriously, you’ve been blowing my mind like this for 30+ years, and a guy could never ask for a finer brother or business partner….so don’t ever change!

Arizona Occupational Hazard
We need a new exterminator! This little devil greeted us when we arrived at work last week………….AAAAAGGHHH!
“Zoey” From Ruth At Helser Brothers
Zoey is a 5 year old pound puppy. She joined our family 2 years ago. She is very quiet unless provoked by another dog then she turns into the Tasmanian Devil. Zoey is great with our family and other pets. We have caught her howling at the full moon a few times. She used to have a funny little habit of taking little figurines out of the toy box and burying them in the back yard I’m not sure why she stopped doing this. She loves to chase tennis balls. When I pull in the driveway zoe is always sitting in the window next to the door smiling and wagging her tail. Her best friend is my son Talan.
RunPee.com
We found a very clever website www.runpee.com that lets you know at what exact point you can leave a movie to go to the bathroom without missing anything of significant importance to the plot and how much time you will have to get the job done. You are very welcome just don’t say we never gave you nothin’.
Clever Marketing by Blind Devotion

Here in Arizona we have photo radar which is a highly controversial traffic control system and an extremely effective state revenue generator (hence the controversy).
Love it or hate it, you have got to chuckle at this clever marketing tactic employed by one of our local clients…..
The story is that our general manager headed down to one of the area “tax day tea parties” to see what all the hooplah was about and discovered that it was a peaceful demonstration in protest of government spending. When he returned to his car he found a flyer from Blind Devotion under his wiper blade. On one side was a little message intended to kind of tease the photo radar enforcement staff, and on the other side were directions for how to use this “photo radar protection device.”
In a nutshell, the instructions were to keep the paper in your lap while driving and when you see a photo radar station hold up the paper with the message side out (safely of course.) This makes it impossible for the officials to identify who the driver is causing them to (theoretically) throw out the case.
The instructions are to then (after seeing the flash of the camera) take the $185. that you would have had to pay for your speeding ticket and spend it on new window coverings at Blind Devotion.
We here at HB don’t care to even touch politics with a ten foot pole but we do know clever when we see it!
Mothers Day and Our Refrigerator Magnet

I was in the office break room this morning when I stopped to look at this magnet, smiled for a few seconds, and BLAM!…..it hit me that this magnet has been making me pause and smile for years! This was followed by a few moments of clarity and I realized that every time I look at this magnet I see my wife and her sisters, my daughters, and my three sisters all of whom strike similar poses on a regular basis.
This is the week that we should all take time to honor and celebrate the women in our lives and I love this magnet because it reminds me of them.
Every mom should have one of these on their fridge and we want to help so the first 20 moms to comment on this post (please include mailing address) will get one in the mail compliments of Helser Brothers.
Don’t forget to leave your address!
Repurposed Contemporganic Finalzilla
It seemed like a waste to let this rejected prototype collect dust so we asked in a previous post for ideas on how to repurpose it. Sue Carlson in Boston was first with the winning idea shown to the left. This big guy is going to get a second chance at life in Sue’s yard holding a plant next to her grape trellis. Congrats Sue, we shipped it today!

Contemporganic Finialzilla
We had to ask our production manager Gene to hold this monster for the photo because he was the only one with the muscles to lift it!
This has got to be the biggest finial that we have ever made. The room must have been enormous!
It was a one of a kind custom prototype for a client that ended up not working out. We were shooting for the “contemporganic” look that we thought her drawing conveyed, but hey, she didn’t like it….no biggie….it happens.
I think we should take this lemon and make some lemonade. We are going to make it into something useful and give it away. Put your ideas below and the best one gets the finished product.
