Little Helser Welders Win Big At The Fair

This year a neighbor encouraged us to have our kids enter a craft in the Arizona State Fair. After looking through the catalog, one category hit close to home: Metal Craft. We knew we had the resources, but the kids also needed the skills. So one afternoon, Briggs and Finn came over to Helser Brother to have me teach them how to weld and to build their projects for the Fair. After looking at all the possible parts, the kids quickly decided what they wanted to make…….

Welding must be part of the Helser DNA, because after only a short while, Briggs and Finn were able to weld without my help. The finished products were mother and child bird team by Briggs, and a sword fish by Finn.

Yesterday the whole family went to the fair to find out if the boys’ projects had placed. We are happy to say the Briggs placed second and Finn third in the Metal Craft category.

The kids liked welding so much that they can’t wait to work on their next project. We’ll keep you posted.

Evita Wins 2009 ASID Design Excellence Award

I enjoyed a nice night out (no kids!) at the ultra-swank Hyatt Regency Gainey Ranch Resort for the ASID Design Excellence Awards in Scottsdale last week. The cocktail meet and greet was full of conversation, familiar faces, and friendly smiles. The herb crusted chicken and filet mignon at dinner were fantastic (yes, I had both). A definite highlight of the awards-presentation that followed was when our pal Debra May Himes received the Prestigious Medalist award. It was so cool to see her receive a standing ovation while her son and husband presented her with flowers. The night was not entirely without shenanigans….while the winners arrived on stage to receive their awards, the disco music set some feet on fire and some fingers pointing like John Travolta. Many winners had some surprisingly funky disco moves….hilarious!

After seeing some of the extensive and in depth projects projected on the big screen, I am convinced that some of designers must work 24-7. For example, Anita Lang Mueller, David Michael Miller, Kacie Moore, Tony Sutton, and many more were winning multiple awards for some pretty meticulous and obviously tedious undertakings. They sure accomplish a lot in one year!

Oh yeah ….WE WON TOO! It sure is an honor to be recognized for product design by our peers at ASID.

Cross-Line Compatibilities

Folks are starting to figure out that we can easily combine our lines with stunning results!

Shown above are a couple of examples: The top photo shows a 2″ fluted wood pole in the “Loire Champagne” finish from the “Isabella” line of drapery hardware combined with Iron rings, finials, brackets, and collars in the “Canyon” finish from the “Artigiani” line.

The Bottom photo shows a 2 3/4″ smooth wood pole in the “Chelsea Bisque” finish from the “Isabella” line combined with the “Sofia” finial and a custom iron bracket in the “Manchester” finish from the “Artigiani” line of hardware.
