The Wave Rod

Wave Rod for BlogJays-50D_2032

Judy Magara of M.S. Interiors ordered this custom rod recently and was kind enough to let us share it with you.  A very common customization is to weld rings in place so that panels can be mounted at an angle, but it never occured to us to bend the bracket till Judy pointed out that it would probably look better and ordered it…..brilliant!

We all think that her idea to add the “wave” in front of the rings is bound to look fantastic and can’t wait to see the finished product.

I could have used this a couple of years ago on a similar job. I will have to remember about the Custom products you offer. Thanks for the reminder.
Love the bracket for this application.

    RE: http://www.whyhelser.com/2009/08/the-wave-rod/

Hi there! I’ve been googling for something like this all summer and lucky me you just wrote about it! I saw something like this in a design magazine and I’ve been trying to think of what obvious products I can use to make one like it myself (say out of wood) – but nothing is as elegant as the real thing.

I’m a homeowner and project DIY hobbyist for fun – full time long-hour real-world job keeps me from it sometimes. My situation is that we have a large cathedral ceiling bedroom with a beam down the top center and in the middle of the ” /\ ” wall there are 2 very large square 60 x 60 windows, spaced 18″ apart from each other. The wall itself is about 15′ at its widest point. The view looks out over the ocean – so we want to show it off – but right in front of our house is a road – where the neighbors can peer into our bedroom for the past year! So I’ve made roman shades to cover the windows themselves and that addresses privacy. But then to show off the height of the room I was thinking of making drapes that flanked the far left and right sides of the 2 windows (e.g. 2 panels total – none in the middle). And rather having them on a standard rod where they could be pulled across the window, I was thinking of using an angled rod that paralleled the slope of the ceiling. Due to our view we’ll never want to pull them shut anyways.

So I’m wondering if you have any ideas? I was picturing something almost exactly like your wave rod in fact. Do you think it will work? Will the sloped rod look weird against the cathedral ceiling or will it help make the room look bigger?

Finally, are all your pieces custom; do you have any more wave rods to sell; and how would they be priced?

Thanks so much for your time and patience!
    Cheers,
    Marina
